Thanks for this receipe. I have had this cookbook for many years (my mother gave it to me back in the 60’s when I first set up housekeeping). I have become famous for the chocolate chip cookie receipe. I even bought another book to find out they changed the receipe. Trying a few others receipes I found none are as good as this one.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening at medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, & salt. Beat until mixture is combined, scraping sides of bowl. Beat in eggs, vanilla, until combined.

This should all be done with a wooden spoon . Tempting the rage of the kitchen gods, I used a rubber spatula and this seemed to work just fine. The older and newer recipes were completely different. Her cookbook is an edition from the late 60’s or early 70’s, mine is from the late 80’s. Why they changed the recipe I have no idea, but the older one is better. The changes included swapping butter for the original shortening, and the sugar measurements were different too.

Prepare as directed, except press dough into an ungreased 15x10x1 inch baking pan. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Just a half cup of tahini adds a nice nuttiness to the taste. To really elevate that sesame flavor, drizzle on some homemade tahini icing.

I still prefer the recipe from my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It is very similiar to the toll house recipe. Line 4 oven trays with baking paper. Thank you for posting this recipe. I went out of town and left my recipe at home. I thought I would just google it and found that every site I pulled up had the new version where they added butter.
